Microware OS-9 for XScale is a complete software solution designed for OEMs who are developing embedded and real-time applications for XScale-based hardware Radisys' Microware OS-9 for XScale is ideal for use in a variety of embedded applications including industrial control and factory automation, interactive point of sale kiosks and test and measurement, among others

Pressured to develop better products faster, OEMs are continually on the lookout for tools and technologies that can help reduce development costs and shorten time to market.

Radisys has integrated and validated a complete set of tools in the Microware OS-9 for XScale product, which allows developers to hit the ground running.

Providing OEMs with a comprehensive software solution, which include drivers, support packages and middleware, among others, means developers can spend their precious time designing intellectual property and features that differentiate their XScale-based products.

"Microware OS-9 for XScale builds on the popularity of our entire line of OS-9 products, compliments our XScale-based hardware platforms and is evidence of our commitment to support Intel technology", said Fred Yentz, Vice President for Radisys.

"Offering proven, application ready platforms is a key strategy for the company.

Using our integrated, validated OS-9 products OEMs not only realise a reduction in development costs and improved time to market, they also have fewer vendors to manage".

The OS-9 real-time operating system (RTOS) offers a secure, runtime environment that prevents application errors from corrupting the system.

In this environment, OEMs can more easily integrate their own software components with those from third parties, without needing to develop additional software debugging features.

OS-9 is a high availability, fault-tolerant RTOS that offers superior system reliability and security in three ways: protection between applications; protection between the OS and applications; and Protection for executable programs against accidental, or intentional, changes.

Additionally, OS-9 is based on a modular architecture.

By leveraging OS-9's modularity, OEMs can load updated or completely new functionality into the field-deployed systems, even while the device is online and in use.

This enables OEMs to significantly extend the life of their products.

The Microware OS-9 for XScale product also supports next generation, Internet-enabled products that require scalability, security and auto-reconfiguration features.

The system incorporates the SoftStax Networking Framework, which allows interoperability between new, and proprietary, network protocols.

This framework also allows application portability across network topologies.

Microware OS-9 for XScale product provides a pre-integrated, Windows-hosted development environment based on Borland CodeWright 7.0.

OS-9 features extensive I/O, storage, TCP/IP, networking, graphics and audio and a power management subsystem.

OS-9 also features a NetBSD v1.6-compliant dual IPv6/IPv4 network stack, SoftStax networking framework for easy protocol integration, and a socket-based API with TCP/UDP/IP functionality.

The product also features board support packages for the RadiSys EXS-6424, the industry's first dual processor PrPMC based on the Intel IXC1100 control plane processor, and Intel's IXCDP1100 development platform.

Microware OS-9 for XScale will be available in April 2004.
