AdvancedTCA platform to gain Linux support

A RadiSys Corporation product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Feb 15, 2005

Radisys and Wind River Systems have expanded their partnership.

Radisys and Wind River Systems have expanded their partnership, and the Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition is being ported to the Radisys Promentum ATCA 4000, a high performance, dual Intel Xeon processor-based, general purpose compute processing module.

This collaboration will enable telecommunication equipment manufacturers (TEMs) and system integrators to rapidly develop next generation Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) applications.

"The combination of the Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition and our Promentum ATCA 4000 will enable the rapid deployment of new applications for TEMS and system integrators", said Ted Ridgway, Vice President of Service Provider and Enterprise Equipment at Radisys.

"We are pleased to work with Wind River on this project and delighted that they are officially a Radisys Alliance Programme member".

Wind River's Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition is Wind River's first platform that includes a complete Carrier Grade Linux operating system, a rich set of networking middleware and Wind River's development suite, Workbench.

With Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition and Platform for Network Equipment, VxWorks Edition, telecommunications equipment manufacturers can develop and run the complete range of network equipment applications from core and enterprise to access and edge devices.

Additionally, the Radisys Promentum ATCA-4000 is equipped with dual Intel Xeon processors, allowing high performance general purpose application processing capability required for today's complex telecomms applications.

"Radisys and Wind River have teamed together to deliver this application-ready platform built on Intel processors and developed from industry standards AdvancedTCA and carrier grade Linux", said Anthony Ambrose, General Manager, Modular Platform Programmes at Intel Corp.

"This is a fine example of how the Intel Communications Alliance members work together to deliver rapid time to market solutions for telecom equipment manufacturers".

"Wind River has worked with Radisys for a number of years through their respective partner programmes", said John Fanelli, Vice President, Product Planning and Management, Wind River.

"We look forward to collaborating with Radisys to provide our customers with device software solutions specifically tailored to the development of Carrier Grade Linux applications".

Wind River is a member of the Radisys Alliance Programme (RAP), which is composed of companies that provide technology solutions and services that enhance Radisys' Promentum family of AdvancedTCA products.

Through RAP, Radisys will enable TEM customers to bring more integrated applications to market, faster.

Radisys is a Platform partner in Wind River's Alliance Programme.

The Platform Partner Programme enables its members to align their technical roadmaps and business models.

The Platform Programme partnerships are designed to further optimise mutual customers the support of the entire development lifecycle, from concept to deployed product.
