A new packet processing module allows the highest bandwidth throughput available in a single AdvancedTCA slot, and so can significantly reduce the cost of packet processing solutions.

New from Radisys Corp, the Promentum ATCA-7010 is, a packet processing module that allows the highest bandwidth throughput available in a single AdvancedTCA slot, and so can significantly reduce the cost of packet processing solutions The latest addition to the company's family of AdvancedTCA-compliant products features dual Intel IXP28xx network processors and is designed to address 10Gbit/s wire speed packet processing in network applications that demand high bandwidth throughput such as security gateways, GGSN, broadband remote access servers, edge routers and session controllers

AdvancedTCA has emerged as the platform of choice for designers developing next generation infrastructure products.

AdvancedTCA-compliant solutions allow designers to meet carrier grade requirements and address the evolving security needs of service providers.

Improved network security is a critical issue and the telecommunications industry is spending billions of dollars to secure networks with sophisticated gateway devices.

Incorporating AdvancedTCA-compliant solutions into their designs, telecomms equipment manufacturers (TEMs) can deliver products that enable service providers to deliver more services, securely and faster.

Using the Promentum ATCA-7010, designers can implement a high performance security gateway that filters/monitors incoming traffic for intrusion or security breach, at wire speed.

The ATCA-7010 also offers unequalled levels of programmability via the network processors, meaning customers can easily adapt to evolving security requirements or implement traffic shaping and reuse the same hardware solution in multiple applications, creating a higher return on their investment.

"We continue to broaden our family of ATCA products with solutions designed to help our customers design better products faster and more economically", said Barry Buxton, Technical Sales Manager, EMEA, Radisys.

"The flexibility and programmability provided by the Promentum ATCA-7010 allows TEMs to deliver products that offer improved economies of scale and increased application flexibility and velocity, which results in a lower total cost of ownership to their customers".

Radisys designed the Promentum ATCA-7010 with modularity in mind.

The module includes a baseboard, fabric interface card and a rear transition module (RTM).

The baseboard hosts dual 1.4GHz core Intel IXP28xx network processors, giving users the ability to allocate power where it is needed.

The modular design allows the PICMG 3.x fabric interface to be designed as a mezzanine board offering users added flexibility.

This flexibility allows users to choose between star or mesh topology implementations.

The RTM connects to the baseboard via a SPI-4 interface enabling multiple I/O interfaces such as redundant 10Gbit/s Ethernet or multiple OC-48/STM-4 by simply substituting the RTM with the right interface.

The Promentum ATCA-7010 features dual Intel IXP28xx network processors with 1.4GHz core and 700MHz Xscale and can be configured as single, or dual, parallel or pipelined.

10Gbit/s packet processing is made possible with 10 x 1Gbit/s Ethernet interfaces that connect via a rear transition module (RTM).

The ATCA-7010 supports PICMG 3.0 and PICMG 3.x through a modular fabric interface card.

It also includes three independent banks of 256Mbyte RDRAM per network processor, at 533MHz/1055MT.The module also includes four banks of 8Mbyte (maximum) QDR II SRAM per network processor.

An optional 18Mbit TCAM is available in place of an SRAM bank.

The ATCA-7010 is compatible with the Intel IXP SDK 4.x and is equipped with a full complement of diagnostics and debug support.

Additionally, the ATCA-7010 comes complete with the Radisys SDK and Montavista Professional Edition 3.1 support.

The Promentum ATCA-7010 will be available for early access starting in June 2005.

Pricing for the module is dependent on configuration and starts at US $10,582 for a fully loaded memory configuration.

OEM quantities and pricing will be available.
