MSDSL modem extends the local loop
RAD Data Communications has introduced the ASMi-51 MSDSL modem, which offers variable datarates and extended distances in the local loop.
The LA-140 incorporates a standard ELCP signalling stack to support ISDN signalling over ATM.
ELCP is a standard protocol that specifies the mechanism where V5.2-based signalling messages are exchanged between the VoDSL Gateway and IAD to support both POTS (plain old telephone system) and ISDN voice over ATM.
The standard is currently supported by leading VoDSL gateway vendors such as Tdsoft and Alcatel.
Cirpack, Jetstream and others are expected to follow shortly.
BLES-CCS/ELCP offers carriers major benefits, including concentration and dynamic channel allocation capabilities and reliable connectivity between the VoDSL gateway and IAD.
"In comprehensive testing at carrier sites, the DSL Forum and the DSL Standards Lab at the University of New Hampshire, the LA-140 was found to be fully interoperable with equipment from major DSLAM vendors and VoDSL gateway equipment", states Avi Katz, Senior VoDSL Product Line Manager at RAD Data Communications.
Currently, the LA-140 supports G.SHDSL, ADSL, SDSL-2B1Q and ATM-E1 uplinks.
The product provides support for voice over DSL in compliance with the ATM Forum's Loop Emulation Service (LES) standard, which facilitates the connection to analogue phones, ISDN equipment, PBXs or other channelised E1 devices.
