Slimline protection for lithium-polymer batteries
Raychem's new Thin-Strap line of PolySwitch resettable fuses provides enhanced protection for rechargeable battery packs typically used in cell phones, laptops and other portable equipment.
It offers increased safety by latching into a high resistance state when a short circuit or overcharge fault occurs.
Once the fault and power to the circuit are removed, the device automatically resets for normal operation.
The VTP110 strap device's narrow, low-profile form factor and axial leads allow it to be welded directly onto battery cells, saving battery pack manufacturers space in portable electronics applications.
The VTP110 device also offers enhanced, resettable thermal protection, allowing Li-ion pack designers to eliminate one-shot thermal fuses, which are subject to nuisance tripping.
With hold current ratings of 1.1A at 25C and 0.5A at 60C, the VTP110 device provides sufficient hold current for the majority of handheld applications.
The VTP110 circuit protection device measures only 25.6 x 2.9 x 0.7mm and has a maximum time-to-trip of 5s at 7A.
It has a voltage withstand capability of 16V and typical resistance of 54mW.
UL, CSA and TUV certifications are pending.
