Magnetics module shrinks Gigabit Ethernet ports
New from Tyco Electronics is the model GB4xxx-LP single-port Gigabit Ethernet magnetics module from CoEv Magnetics.
New from Tyco Electronics is the model GB4xxx-LP single-port Gigabit Ethernet magnetics module from CoEv Magnetics.
At less than 2.5mm thick, this ultra-low profile single-channel interface for 10/100/1000 Gigabit applications is the first of its kind in the market.
It is designed to help facilitate design of smaller mobile devices such as laptop computers, tablet PCs, PCMCIA cards, docking stations and other low-profile Ethernet devices.
"The ultra-low profile and compact footprint of the GB4xxx-LP module helps designers drive forward their efforts toward smaller, thinner product designs", said Adrian Mikolajczak, Multimedia Market Manager for Tyco Electronics Power Components.
This surface-mount magnetics module helps provide a single port IEEE802.3 compliant transformer/choke designed for Gigabit Ethernet applications.
The height of the new part is less than 2.5mm, providing a breakthrough in module height.
This compares to prior Gigabit Ethernet modules with a height of 5.7mm.
Integrated into this thin package are four isolation transformers and four common mode chokes, with an option for four auto transformers.
"The GB4xxx-LP product takes advantage of the latest developments in ferrite materials and transfer moulding technology to achieve Gigabit performance in a product less than 2.5mm thick", said Bob Lappin, Design Engineer for CoEv Magnetics.
The GB4xxx-LP is available in tube or tape and reel packaging for compatibility with high-volume manufacturing.
