The latest PolySwitch PPTC (polymeric positive temperature coefficient) resettable strap device from Raychem Circuit Protection offers the thinnest strap profile in the industry.
The small footprint, low-resistance, through-hole device features a rated hold current of 180mA, and is suitable for ambient temperatures up to 85C.
When compared with traditional lightning-robust fuses that hold more than 1A and pass fault currents of 2A or more, the TRF250-180 device limits the let-through energy to a significantly lower level, enabling product designs that use less-expensive, smaller, lower-power components.
In addition to interrupting potentially damaging power faults, the TRF250-180 device is robust to ITU-T K.20/21/45 lightning surges, making it an appropriate choice for protection of telecom and networking equipment designed for use around the world.
"This new product was developed in response to customer requests for a smaller insulated device that could be used in high-density or space-constrained applications", said Rodrigo Rubiano, Telecommunications and Networking Market Manager for Raychem Circuit Protection.
"The device meets ITU-T recommendations for both customer premise and central office applications, and also helps manufacturers comply with local environmental regulations", he added.
The TRF250-180 device is available in tape and reel packaging for compatibility with high-volume manufacturing, or in bulk quantities.
