EGPRS (Edge) technology is an attractive option for mobile phone vendors as it triples conventional GPRS datarates without needing high levels of infrastructure investment.
As network operators convert basestations to become 'Edge capable' there is the need to be able to test this functionality.
A feature that is unique to Racal's 6113 basestation test system is that it can test both the transmitter and receiver - conventional systems test only the transmitter.
Unlike current test systems that require the basestation to be connected to the network, the model 6113 simulates the network so testing can be carried out without basestation connection.
This is a huge benefit; as with Racal's GSM solution, basestations will be fully tested prior to them entering service, ensuring the smooth and reliable rollout of an Edge network.
