The news comes as a timely, if somewhat cautionary, boost for the industry with Nepcon just around the corner.
62% of the sample of 482 companies predicted that their unit production would increase over the next six months, with only 14% predicting a decrease.
The upward trend is even more evident when compared with results from the last six months, where only 42% of companies stated that their production had increased and 33% stated that it had decreased.
As a result of this confidence in the market, the number of companies expecting to operate at above 90% of production in the next six months was up by 45% on the preceding six-month period.
Those expecting to operate at under 75% of capacity declined from 52% to just 40%.
With production volumes expected to increase, 47% of the sampled companies are predicting greater capital expenditure over the next six months, and only 18% less.
This compares markedly with the last six-month period, in which only 28% has seen an increase and 32% had seen a decrease.
"Any market predictions should be viewed with caution at the current time, as the market is still extremely volatile", comments Justin Tadman, Nepcon's Exhibition Director.
"However, these results provide an interesting glimpse at the direction in which the market appears to be moving.
It is an encouraging sign for what lies ahead and should provide the whole industry with cause for optimism with Nepcon taking place at the beginning of October".
The survey covered 482 companies in the following sectors: contract manufacturing, communications, instrumentation, consumer electronics, automotive and IT.
