Sales success at Nepcon despite low turnout
Machine sales and orders were high on the agenda at October's Nepcon show, according to exhibitors.
Machine sales and orders were high on the agenda at October's Nepcon show, according to exhibitors.
Reports have been made of some major deals struck at the show, and among those in the orders were Bartek, Blundell, Dewer Brothers, IFR, Interpoint, National Instruments, Pressmaster, Qualtitetch, Series 4, SJM Eurostat, Solder Connection, SPEA and WK Test.
The majority of exhibitors have been quoted as saying that decision makers with money to spend were prevalent at the exhibition, attending with specific intentions having already done their research.
"Things came full circle for us, as we finalised a deal worth GBP 300,000 at this year's show from a new contact we made at Nepcon 2001", says Alexander Craig, Sales Manager at Qualtitetch.
"There was an almost tangible buzz around Nepcon this year, with lots of activity and very high quality visitors.
This makes me extremely optimistic about the short-term future of the industry".
"Given the way the electronics industry has been for the last 18 months, many people were very pessimistic about Nepcon 2002 before the show", comments Justin Tadman, Exhibition Director.
"However, there was a truly unique, relaxed and lively atmosphere around the event this year that I haven't witnessed before, and the feel-good factor was amazing.
It is hard to explain to anyone who didn't attend but, quite simply, you had to be there".
Others to come away from the NEC after three days' good business included Interpoint, which is waiting to finalise a deal for a display system worth GBP 150,000 from a Nepcon contact, and IFR, which took a major order on day three for two 4250 test systems and three-year maintenance contracts for all production test equipment.
As the exclusive UK distributor for the Yamaha i-pulse M1 machine, Blundell also took its tenth order for the system in just 12 months, from Electro Assembly Services.
Meanwhile, SPEA finalised the sale of a 4040 flying probe test system to Methode Technologies.
Stephen Wevill of Pressmaster summed up the feeling among many of the show's more specialist exhibitors when he commented: "Nepcon 2002 was the best show we've attended in several years.
Had we been keeping a stock of product on the stand, I am confident that we would have sold it then and there".
