Show business deal leads to placement order

A Reed Exhibitions (UK) product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Dec 18, 2006

A deal initiated at the Nepcon exhibition has resulted in Mydata selling two high-spec MY-Series placement machines to Cogent Technology.

Mydata has confirmed the sale of two high-spec MY-Series placement machines to progressive East Anglia-based full-service contract electronics manufacturer Cogent Technology, in a deal initiated at this year's Nepcon exhibition.

Cogent Managing Director Nigel Slator explains that expansion of the company's SMT assembly services led to a decision to replace existing pick and place equipment and a visit to Nepcon with his purchasing team to evaluate products from a supplier shortlist.

"We had already defined our exhibition stand visits and, in fact, Mydata was not initially on our list".

Mydata was one of very few exhibitors who chose to demonstrate its product range in operation live at Nepcon 2006, held at the Birmingham NEC in May.

The company's display allowed visitors to watch the machines in action and witness the exceptional component placement speed, accuracy and flexibility.

Having seen the equipment performing on the stand, the Cogent team immediately added Mydata to its list and set about finding out more.

"You could say seeing is believing", says Slator, adding: "After visiting the Mydata stand and watching the machines demonstrate quick changeovers, accuracy and an ability to easily process a broad range of components, we recognised these as the exact characteristics that we needed, so our preconceptions changed".

"Mydata went straight to the top of our list".

"And this led to successful trials with our own products".

Appearing at Nepcon as part of the comprehensive Mydata demonstration area, the MY-9 machines are equipped with 96 feeder positions and are characterised by the high performance associated with the entire MY-Series range.

Commenting on the success of the Mydata stand at the show, New Business Manager Andy Jones explained: "A live demonstration of this scale was certainly a significant commitment for us but our corporate philosophy is to always do things properly".

"I believe you only get one chance to make the right impression".

"We also know that Nepcon is a serious platform for purchasing decisions, and we were proved right".

For Jones and his exhibition team the Nepcon investment paid off, resulting in Cogent's decision to purchase a Mydata line.

"For us, Nepcon 2006 - and all our future Nepcon events for that matter - are not about the space you occupy but what you are prepared to do with it to showcase your potential".

"That's what visitors want to see and it's clear that this is what impresses them most".
