WEEE compliance scheme is approved
Repic has received approval from the Environment Agency for its WEEE compliance scheme.
Open to local authority employees, the initiative follows a successful series of Repic seminars held regionally earlier in 2006.
The WEEE Directive requires producers to provide the means to recycle all redundant, separately collected electrical and electronic appliances.
Local authorities are encouraged to adapt waste disposal and collection, and change household waste sites (tips or civic amenity sites) to receive WEEE goods.
Dr Philip Morton, Repic's Chief Executive, said: "We know from our extensive consultations with local authorities that there is some confusion and concern about the WEEE Directive's impact on their current operations".
"Our seminars will discuss the implications of the directive on local authorities and offer advice as to how they may comply more easily with the new laws and regulations".
