Five-layer package takes in MCU, logic and memory
A novel five-layer stacked SiP (system in package) device combines a high-performance SuperH microprocessor, logic LSI chip and memory chips in a single package.
Microcontroller shinks to metering applications
The H8/38004F MCU offers extremely low power consumption together with 32Kbyte single-supply on-chip Flash memory and is the first in the SLP series that is available in a 64-pin quad flatpack.
The R61505 will reduce power consumption and bill of materials for the increasingly high performance amorphous TFT colour LCD panels required for mobile phone handsets incorporating high-resolution camera, TV and video streaming functions.
The R61505 features approximately 172Kbyte on-chip display RAM and supports the rich 260k colour display capability which has made gaming and video applications popular on mobile handsets.
The additional on-chip 10bit write-only nonvolatile memory reduces the need for external memory previously used for the storage of image quality adjustment data, a destination ID code for shipment management and other additional information.
The single-chip format and on-chip integrated memory enable handset manufacturers to reduce the number of components used and therefore the overall cost of implementing high-quality screens.
The device also supports wide angled LCD panels, which are becoming more popular, with an LCD drive voltage range of 4.5 to 6.0V.
The R61505 offers an on-chip hardware sequencer to handle the power supply start-up sequence.
Integrated software contains a startup instruction for this sequencer, enabling user-programming errors to be reduced and development efficiency to be improved.
The same eight-colour display mode, standby mode and deep standby mode as in previous products are provided as functions for reducing power consumption.
The chip short sides have also been limited to 2mm or less, allowing narrow-framed LCD panels to be easily introduced to the mobile handset market.
Connection to a microprocessor is via an 8/9/16/18bit high-speed bus interface, and a built-in high-speed burst RAM write function enables efficient data transfer.
Image data interfaces include a new FMARK interface in addition to the same RGB and Vsync interfaces as currently used.
Chip on glass (COG) is supported as the chip mounting method.
Sample shipments of the device will begin in July 2005.
