The H8/36109GF microcontroller is ideal for use in motor control applications where its powerful 16bit timers can control two motors simultaneously.

Renesas Technology Europe has announced the H8/36109GF microcontroller, its fastest and most powerful 16bit timer solution The device is ideal as a low cost solution for use in motor control applications including washing machines, dishwashers, compressors and fans, where its powerful 16bit timers can control two motors simultaneously

It also includes a 20MHz 16bit CPU core and is designed to offer a cost optimised solution where DSP or higher cost MCUs would previously have been used.

A powerful five channel 16bit timer module allows the user to generate up to 15 channels of 16bit PWM.

H8/36109GF's on-chip oscillator operates at up to 40MHz, enabling the timer channels to operate with a 25ns timer resolution.

The addition of a watchdog timer with independent on-chip oscillator, power on reset and low-voltage detection circuits simplifies the design of safety critical systems.

H8/36109GF provides a true single-chip motor control and user interface solution.

The 128Kbyte of on-chip single supply flash memory allows the user to easily reprogram the memory without any special additional circuitry.

Large on-chip SRAM makes it ideal for applications requiring high levels of data handling and calculation.

Three high-speed serial ports combined with up to 5Kbyte of SRAM, for buffering, make the device ideal for communications gateways and protocol convertors.

The on-chip I2C Interface allows the H8/36109GF to interface to a variety of peripherals such as serial EEPROMs, telecomms ICs and other microcontrollers.

This makes the series useful in many consumer applications such as set-top boxes where it can be used as a low cost systems controller for handling I/O functions.

It can also be used in other consumer products such as radios and stereos where I2C is the communications standard.

H8/36109GF's powerful peripherals include three high speed USARTs, a multimaster I2C channel and 16 channels of 10bit A/D to offer strong communications capability.

The H8/36109GF offers a low cost integrated upgrade solution to existing Renesas H8/300H tiny users.
