The E100 Emulator will support a wide range of the new Renesas Technology M16C family along with other 8 to 32bit CISC microcontroller series products.

Renesas Technology has released the E100 Emulator, a full-spec in circuit emulator Initially supporting theM16C Next family, support for other 8 to 32bit CISC (complex instruction set computer) microcontroller series will follow

The E100 Emulator has a body that is common to all Renesas' microcontroller series along with a series-specific MCU unit.

The emulator features compact dimensions and a low price.

It offers major improvements in debugging functions and ease of use compared with other emulators currently on the market.

The E100 Emulator will support a wide range of the new Renesas Technology M16C family along with other 8 to 32bit CISC microcontroller series products.

Debugging functions, common to each microcontroller series, are provided as standard in the compact 73 x 184 x 132mm emulator body.

An exchangeable MCU unit that differs for each microcontroller series is housed in the emulator body.

This enables an H8S family, H8SX family, or other microcontroller series to be supported simply by changing the MCU unit.

The price of this new emulator has been greatly reduced to less than half that of previous Renesas Technology emulators.

The ability to accommodate a change of target microcontroller, simply by purchasing an additional MCU unit after the initial emulator purchase, allows a range of development environments to be supported with the minimum of additional cost.

The GUI (graphical user interface) has been designed with the aim of simplifying ease of use for first-time users.

This GUI enables complex settings, such as those for break condition combinations, trace condition specifications and repeated-routine execution time measurement conditions, to be implemented easily using a visual, drag-and-drop approach.

Also, a clear and straightforward display of related functions is provided, such as implementation of a screen display associated with function execution history when referencing trace information.

It is also possible to link the E100 Emulator to Renesas Technology's Embedded Workshop integrated development environment.

This allows debugging to be performed efficiently by carrying out various tasks from coding and building to actual-system debugging under a powerful project management system.

The E100 Emulator incorporates a four-megacycle, large-capacity trace memory, a 16Kbyte real-time RAM monitor facility, a 16-channel event detection system, 4096 software breakpoints, a 2Mbyte-address range coverage memory and 32 input external-trigger function.

Such resources simplify debugging contents and the detection of problem points, helping to significantly shorten a user's debugging time.

A Windows 2 compatible PC is used as the host computer, connected via a USB 2.0 interface, allowing high-speed serial communication.

The emulator uses no hazardous substances in either its hardware components or packaging and is an environment-friendly product using RoHS compliant materials.
