Review Display Systems has unveiled the latest addition to its single board computer range: the Aaeon PCM-5335 This is an industry standard PC/104 board measuring just 90 x 96mm

The CPU engine is a very efficient National GX1-300MHz embedded processor, combining low power fanless operation with superb performance and functionality.

Indeed, the board requires just a single +5V power supply and can achieve power consumption figures of 1.04-1.35A with a typical system arrangement.

The PCM-5335 punches well above its size.

Running with Award 256Kbyte Flash BIOS, it provides a 144-pin SODIMM socket, which can accept up to 128Mbyte SDRAM (the typical laptop-style memory module).

Up to two EIDE devices can be added to a standard 44-pin interface, as well as up to two FDDs to the 34-way interface.

If an ultra-small system footprint is required, then there is a CompactFlash socket to accept Flash cards that can also act as bootable drive.

For peripheral suppport, the PCM-5335 provides two serial ports (one RS232 and one switchable RS232/422/485), two USB 1.0 compliant ports, one parallel port and a mini-DIN connector for a standard PS/2 keyboard and mouse.

Fast 100Mbit Ethernet is reliably provided by the Intel controller.

The PC/104 standard allows extra functionality such as sound, GPS, PCMCIA and additional LAN to be added simply by stacking boards on top of one another.

The onboard video processor can handle up to 18bit TFT LCD panels, with resolutions up to XGA 1024 x 768 at 18bit per pixel.

Simultaneous CRT monitor resolutions up to 1024 x 768 at 24bit per pixel are also supported.

This board also offers APM 1.2 power management, an infra-red port and a watchdog timer.

The PCM-5335 is ideally suited to applications such as small industrial controllers, in-vehicle systems (eg for navigational aids or tachographs), thin-client networks, building automation, small panel PCs and ticketing systems to name but a few.

Windows CE3.0 has also been ported to the PCM-5335, all of which makes this is a very powerful embedded x86 board which should be seriously considered for your next embedded PC project.
