Delegates from around the world gathered at the 7th RFID Networking Forum on 9th November 2006 at the Olympia 2 Conference Centre in London to attend a range of one-to-one meetings, case studies and discussion groups focused on the use of radio frequency identification technology across a number of industry sectors.
With a focus on prospective users of the technology, the event also attracted impressive numbers of solution providers, analysts, RFID users, venture capitalists and journalists.
Speakers on the day included Mario Cardullo, Counselor for Technology and Entrepreurism at the US Department of Commerce and inventor of the modern RFID tag, James Stafford, Head of RFID, Marks and Spencer and Andrew Price, RFID Project Manager, IATA.
Over 350 delegates attended on the day, creating Europe's largest gathering of the RFID community.
Andy Mcbain, EMEA Snr Product Marketing Manager of Symbol Technologies, one of the Gold Sponsors of the event, said: "The networking element and end user delegate focus is what makes this event stand out from the many other RFID shows on the circuit today".
David Lyon, EPC Global Business Manager of GS1 UK added: "This show should win an award".
The event was not only heavily supported by delegates but was also endorsed by the industries key players, with sponsoring and exhibiting organisations including BT Auto-ID Services, Symbol Technologies, SAP, Sato, Oracle Corporation, Cypak, Nokia, Toshiba, Brother, Printronix, Siemens, Domino Printing, Bea Systems, Intel, Wavetrend and UPM Raflatac.
The RFID Networking Forum was held in conjunction with the RFID Breakthrough Awards; the world's first and foremost awards for radio frequency identification implementations.
The winners of the awards were announced on 8th November at a gala dinner evening at the Banqueting House in Whitehall.
Winners on the evening included TNT Logistics and KPN Dutch Telecom, IATA, Essex County Council, Mitsokushi Department Stores, Worldwide Fruit, BGN Bookstores and Oyster Card.
The next RFID Networking Forum will be taking place on 14th June 2007 at the Olympia 2 Conference Centre in London.
