Wanted: VHDL and system designers

A RF Engines product story

RF Engines is looking to expand its technical team in the VHDL and system design areas, by around 25% during the current year.

RF Engines is aiming for major growth during 2007.

The company, based on the Isle of Wight, UK is looking to expand its technical team in the VHDL and system design areas, by around 25% during the current year.

"Over the recent years, we have established a strong reputation for our design capabilities in the complex FPGA signal processing domain, and our strategy of incorporating these techniques into providing complete product solutions for our customers is driving the growth", explained John Summers, RF Engines CEO.

"Also there is no doubt that recent awards, such as winning the 2006 European Electronics Elektra Awards, on the back of winning the Startup of the Year in 2003 and finalist in the 2005 R and D category, have also added to the impetus".

The company has also recently won several new contracts in the defence EW (electronic warfare), government services, and wireless/satcomms areas and there are strong prospects for significant additional business.

"Basically, RF Engines was founded to exploit the signal processing capabilities of FPGAs and even then at startup in 2000, we had already developed, patented and actually implemented several designs - which was maybe a little unusual around 2000 when a lot of other companies were kicking off with lots of promises but not much to back it up", he added.

"We've also had the benefit of being able to tap into a pool of really strong engineering talent here on the Isle of Wight, that historically came from the advanced radar design work and other defence-related work that has been carried out on the Island for a generation, as well as a cluster of wireless and satcomms design talent".

"Obviously one of the other major attractions is the Island itself, so it is pretty easy to strike a sensible work/life balance".

RF Engines specialises in high performance signal processing on FPGAs, and the company's products include IP cores, complex system cores, and complete subsystem and finished products that incorporate these technologies.

The company's customers are the major players in the defence, government services, wireless communications, and specialist test instrumentation markets.
