Peter Bamford, chief executive of Vodafone UK, opened Radio Frequency Investigation (RFI) Ltd's new mobile communications test and development facility in Thatcham, Berkshire on 20 July 2000.

Peter Bamford, chief executive of Vodafone UK, opened Radio Frequency Investigation (RFI) Ltd's new mobile communications test and development facility in Thatcham, Berkshire on Thursday 20 July 2000 The facility has the largest capability of its kind in the UK with four fully-shielded laboratories and an unrivalled choice of test platform

The opening ceremony was followed by a tour of the facilities and demonstrations of test equipment which included a 3G-technology demonstrator from Spirent Communications simulating two W-CDMA base stations under various propagation conditions.

Richard Jacklin, head of RFI's mobile communications group commented, "The new facility will service current and future needs of the mobile communications industry including cellular terminal manufacturers and network operators.

RFI has positioned itself to focus on the convergence of cellular terminals, low power radio and internet technologies.

Whilst continuing to develop and service the needs of the SIM card industry, we are also capable of testing and developing the high bandwidth products such as UMTS and Bluetooth".
