Radio Frequency Investigation (RFI) is now accredited by UKAS for testing mobile phones to the new European SAR standards EN50360:2001 and EN50361:2001.

Radio Frequency Investigation (RFI) is now accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for testing mobile phones to the new European SAR standards EN50360:2001 and EN50361:2001 This makes RFI the first test laboratory in the world to achieve UKAS accreditation for these new standards

The harmonised standard EN 50360, published in July this year, is the product standard which manufacturers must now follow to demonstrate compliance of mobile phones with basic restrictions related to human exposure to electromagnetic fields in the range 300MHz to 3GHz.

It is potentially more demanding than previous standards and refers to new test procedures and measurements to demonstrate compliance with Article 3.1A of the R and TTE Directive.

The test procedure specifies more detailed SAR measurements and reinforces the importance of SAR measurements and the role they play in giving confidence regarding the health and safety of mobile phones.

RFI has commissioned a new phantom from Swiss supplier Schmid and Partner, which enables easier and more repeatable positioning of mobile handsets and helps manufacturers meet these latest SAR testing requirements.
