RFI reckons it is the first European test house able to offer SAR testing of GSM mobile phones for use in the 850MHz frequency band deployed in North America which is expected to help manufacturers significantly reduce product time to market.

Having completed testing on behalf of a UK mobile phone manufacturer, the first reports have been submitted to the FCC.

RFI has also submitted SAR test reports for mobile phones for use in the 1900MHz band.

RFI, under its remit as a Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB), is authorised to issue Grants of Equipment Authorisation on behalf of the FCC, providing the quickest possible turn around time from testing to certification.

To meet developing standards RFI is to upgrade its DASY3 professional SAR test system to a DASY4 from Swiss supplier Schmid and Partner.

Its release and delivery is imminent.

The DASY4 system will enable RFI to offer customers an enhanced and more efficient service.

In addition to the head phantom (dummy) used to simulate brain tissue, RFI is finding an increasing demand for SAR testing of body-mounted and similar radio devices.
