RFI Global Services has secured a second contract with the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency.

RFI Global Services has secured a second contract with the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency The contract is initially for 2 years and is worth SKr 8 million (GBP 600,000), covering market surveillance measurements of "off the shelf" radio and telecommunications products against the R and TTE Directive

RFI has tested approximately 30 products since March including public mobile radio (PMR), mobile phones, remote control toys, video links and other radio products.

The total volume of products to be audited is expected to be around 80 to 100 per year.

Birger Hagg, National Expert for Market Surveillance of the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency said: "Under the R and TTE Directive, member states must conduct market surveillance".

"Sweden and Germany are at the forefront of this and apply this most rigorously".

"Our findings confirm its significance that over 70% of products placed on the Swedish market are in fact noncompliant".

"Noncompliant products must then either be modified or withdrawn from the European market".

"Market surveillance ensures that consumers are protected and that our radio spectrum is used efficiently".

RFI has been working with the Swedish regulator since 2000.

Grant Taylor, Head of RFI's Wireless Business commenting on the contract said: "This is an important contract for RFI".

"Being selected by a regulator further enhances our reputation as 'market leaders' in the discipline of radio and EMC measurements and our ability to deliver our services globally".

"Our strong commitment to this project also further emphasises our continued contribution to the success of the R and TTE Directive and is a testimony to the skill and knowledge of our technical staff".

The National Post and Telecom Agency is Sweden's regulatory body responsible for the control of radio and telecommunications terminal equipment covered by the radio and telecommunications terminal law, SFS2000:121, and the Telecom Agency's regulation, PTSFS2004:7.

These control activities are known as "market surveillance".

Market surveillance is the mechanism through which the agency can assess whether it needs to intervene against products on the market.
