RF Solutions has complimented its range of PIC microchip emulation products with the introduction of a compact, low-cost programmer.

RF Solutions has complimented its range of PIC microchip emulation products with the introduction of a compact, low-cost programmer The MEL-EPICA enables quick and easy programming of mid-range devices from the popular range of micros

The basic module has an 18-pin socket to suit 8- and 18-pin devices.

The MEL-EPICA is supplied ready for use with its own program disk.

The programmer runs within Windows 95/98/NT or DOS, and is able to integrate within MPLAB.

Connection to a PC is achieved via a standard parallel printer port.

Power can be supplied via two 9V PP3 batteries or an AC adapter.

Devices that can be programmed include PIC12Cx, 16C55x, 6x, 7x, 8x, PIC17c7xx and PIC18Cx as well as all new Flash devices.

Programming software is included, as is a free macro assembler that operates with either Microchip assembler language, C or PIC Basic.

The software also gives the capability to read a device and save the data into a.hex file.

Software is fully upgradeable for future PIC micros.

A wide range of ZIF (zero insertion force) adapters that plug into the 10-pin expansion header are available to enable programming of 28- and 40-pin, as well as surface mount and PLCC packaged PIC devices.

For PIC16C84 or F84 devices, an in circuit adapter can be supplied that allows quick erasing, programming and testing of the PIC without the need to continuously transfer it between the programmer and the target.

The adapter plugs between the programmer and the test board and fully isolates the target system from the high voltages of the programmer.
