RF Solutions has a version of its ANSI C compiler that is designed for use with Microchip's new PIC18XXX series of PIC microcontrollers Versions of the compiler already exist to support established series of the popular microprocessor devices

The Hi-Tech PIC C compiler has numerous features to enable easy development of exceptionally tight and fast code; these include an integrated development environment, assembler-free programming and an intelligent optimiser.

PIC C can be run entirely from the Hi-Tech professional development environment.

From there it is possible to compile, assemble and link an embedded application within a single step.

It is also possible to run the compiler directly from the command line, this enables PIC projects to be developed and managed from within the ICEPIC development environment or MPLAB.

The compiler, which is officially recommended by Microchip as a preferred professional development tool, has an unlimited number of source files and multiple optimisation levels.

A comprehensive library with source code and the ability to carry out mixed C and assembler programming add to the ease of use of the compiler.

Further features of the development system include floating-point support (24 and 32bit IEEE), and a full relocating linker with overlaying of variables to minimise RAM usage.
