In January 2005, Rohde and Schwarz received an order from the Romanian network operator Societatea Nationala de Radiocomunicatii (SNR) to expand the Romanian TV network The order consists of analogue transmitters in the low-, medium- and high-power range which will either be installed for the first time or replace existing transmitters

The Romanian TV network will thus be expanded to provide public broadcasting for the entire country this year.

In addition, Rohde and Schwarz will supply digital transmitters for a DVB-T pilot project in Bucharest and Galati.

All main stations will also be equipped with a monitoring system from Rohde and Schwarz.

To provide the Romanian people with better public broadcasting coverage (channels TV1, TV2 and regional TV), the government decided to upgrade and expand the entire existing transmitter network.

The network operator SNR chose Rohde and Schwarz to supply and install 60% of the required transmitters.

The order is for more than 200 transmitters, including antenna systems.

Twenty-six of the transmitters are liquid-cooled high-power units for the basic network.

The rest includes primarily low-power transmitters to cover valleys in Romania's mountainous areas.

These transmitters are largely installed in a shelter and are supplied via a satellite feed.

In addition to this sweeping upgrade of the TV network for conventional analogue TV, the foundation for the future is already being laid: At the Bucharest-Herastrau and Vacareni-Galati locations, Rohde and Schwarz will install two DVB-T transmitters and their headends with encoders and multiplexers so that a pilot project for digital terrestrial reception can be carried out.

Of course, the analogue high-power transmitters to be supplied can be upgraded to digital at any time.

Rohde and Schwarz will supply all measurement equipment to be used by SNR to monitor and service the analogue TV network for the DVB-T pilot project.

A local service company will handle installation and construction.

Rohde and Schwarz Romania will be responsible for service. Request free introductory details about products from Rohde and Schwarz ...
