Magnetic isolators overcome opto limitations
A range of high-speed IsoLoop magnetic isolators is now available from stock from Rhopoint Components.
A range of high-speed IsoLoop magnetic isolators is now available from stock from Rhopoint Components.
These magnetic isolators are designed for use in such applications as digital fieldbus isolation, high-speed data transmission, motor drive controls and isolated ADCs, DACs and PGAs.
Among the benefits to be gained from using these devices are speed, simplicity of use, a minimum reduction of performance over the life of the isolators, and low power consumption.
With datarates up to 100Mbaud, the IsoLoop technology offers rates of up to ten times that of optoisolators.
Propagation delays of less than 10ns are typical, and pulsewidth distortion is only of the order of 2ns.
The current supply is low, being only up to 10mA per device.
By using IsoLoop devices for applications such as Profibus, RS485 and RS422, users can simplify their PCB layouts as fewer ancillary components are required.
The power consumption of IsoLoop devices is independent of the mark space ratio and solely dependent on frequency.
This makes for a lower power consumption than optoisolators, whose power consumption is heavily dependent on state and frequency.
IsoLoop devices will operate over a wide temperature range of -40 to +100C, compared with the restricted range of 0 to +70C for optoisolators.
