Wireless transceiver talks to its peers
The Spaceport SP2-433-160 is a highly integrated intelligent transceiver module for applications where a radio link or network needs to be simply established between a number of digital devices.
For applications where a radio link or network needs to be simply established between a number of digital devices, wireless datalink expert Radiometrix has introduced its new and highly integrated intelligent transceiver module - Spaceport SP2-433-160 The SP2 has been designed by Radiometrix as an OEM product that can be easily incorporated into new and existing designs

Modem simplifies low power radio
The SPM2-433-28 Space Port Modem is a low-cost, highly integrated wireless half-duplex radio modem module.
The module combines a UHF radio transceiver with a 160Kbit/s packet controller and uses addressable data packets with error checking, packet acknowledgements and retransmissions to achieve a reliable, invisible wireless datalink.
Radiometrix's SP2 is a self-contained plug-on radio port.
It requires only a simple antenna, 5V supply and a byte-wide I/O port on a host microcontroller (or bidirectional PC port).

Transceiver upgrade boosts range and datarate
The BiM2 half-duplex radio transceiver offers greatly improved receiver interference rejection together with higher datarates and greater transmit power.
The module provides all the RF circuits and processor-intensive low level packet formatting and packet recovery functions required to interconnect a number of microcontrollers in a radio network.
A data packet of 1 to 60byte, uploaded by a host microcontroller into the SP2's packet buffer, is then transmitted by the device's BiM2 equivalent transceiver.
This data signal will 'appear' in the receive buffer of all other SP2s within radio range.
A data packet received by the SP2s transceiver is decoded, stored in a packet buffer and the host microcontroller is signalled that a valid packet is waiting to be downloaded.
The SP2 has many features that make it the perfect device for communications with a wide range of applications such as EPOS equipment, barcode scanners, remote data acquisition systems, in-building environmental monitoring and control, high-end security and fire alarms and vehicle data up/download systems.
Such features include: SAW controlled FM transmitter and double superhet receiver; and a reliable 30m in-building range (200m over open ground).
The SP2 operates from a single 3.3 or 5V supply, consuming less than 25mA.
The datarate is 160Kbit/s half duplex with free-format packets of 1-60byte.
The packet framing and error checking are user-transparent and the device features collision avoidance (listen before transmit) and has a direct interface to 5V CMOS logic.
There is also a power save mode.
This is not all.
The SP2 also boasts extensive diagnostic/debug functions for evaluation and debugging of the radio and host driver software, a built in self-test function and a sleep mode / wake-up mechanism.
The latter can be programmed to reduce the average current to less than 100uA.
The operating parameters are fully programmable by the host and held in EEPROM and the host may also use the EEPROM as a general-purpose nonvolatile store for addresses, routing information and the like.
Radiometrix's SP2 conforms to EN300-220-3 and EN301-489-3 and it is sized at a highly compact 23 x 39 x 4mm, making it easy to incorporate into the confined spaces commonly found in modern electronic OEM products.
It is available in 433.92MHz and soon on 869.85 and 914.5MHz operating frequencies, making it ideal for applications in either Europe or the USA. Request a free brochure from Radiometrix ...
