A new range of PCB guide rails features a spring in the side wall that presses against the plug-in board and ensures the component side is held in the datum position, while reducing the effects of vibration.

Available in four versions, the guides are made from flame-retardant glass-reinforced polycarbonate.

Three standard lengths meet a wide variety of applications.

The basic version simply snaps-in to the Ripac subrack horizontal rails, using a locating peg to ensure correct positioning; the second version is similar, but may also be screwed in for a more rigid construction; and the third version is a further development of the snap and screw guide which has provision for mounting a clip for electrostatic discharge at the leading edge.

Version four is designed for use in IEEE1101.10 systems where ESD may need removal from the front panel of the plug-in board, as well as from charged components on the board itself, during hot swapping.

These guides also include chambers in the front face for coding keys as specified in IEC60297-3-103.

Additionally, this version is available with an offset of 0.5HP for power supplies (CompactPCI), telecomms or other application where the height of components on "component side two" (previously known as the "solder side") may interfere with adjacent boards.

These codable guide rails are also available in different colours to aid slot identification in systems, including red (specified for CPCI system slot) and green (power supply in CompactPCI).
