Toolset helps standardise test signal
definitions
A new software toolset facilitates the implementation of the newly approved IEEE1641 signal definition standard.
New from Racal Instruments Group, the newWave software toolset facilitates the implementation of the newly approved IEEE1641 signal definition standard The new standard allows signals to be fully defined in a nonprocedural manner, allowing the same standard based signal to be used in a multitude of test environments and a variety of situations

Software tools link design and test
Racal Instruments Group has developed a series of new, user-friendly software tools called newWaveX, designed specifically to meet the needs of design and test engineers.
PC based test system goes portable
The Mini-FLITS (front line integrated test system) is an ultralight, PC-based first line test system weighing less than 9kg.
Platform promises modular microwave switching
The 1260-67M is a six-position single-slot VXI modular microwave switch platform.
Developed to assist software and test developers use and implement the new signal standard, newWave enables signal definition exports into ATML, C++, and other commonly used test programming environments.
In addition to providing a visual development environment for defining signals based on IEEE1641, newWave facilitates the visualisation, simulation and standardisation of complex signals across multiple platforms.
Integrating with test execution environments, providing import/export of IEEE1641 compliant signal definitions through VB and XML, being open architecture ATML compliant, and providing graphic signal simulation for proving newWave and third party defined signals, it is the software toolset of choice.
When integrating with COTS test environments through ActiveX technology, dynamic signal updates based on external events are accomplished through DirectX streaming.
In addition, real time signal generation is realised, and there is consistent data interoperability between platforms with ATML output.
"A guiding principle during the development process was that newWave must be able to integrate with COTS test execution environments, eg with TestBase, a software and programming tool developed by TYX Corporation, an EADS North America Company, of Reston, Virginia", states Chris Gorringe, Software Engineering Manager.
"The result of this design philosophy is that newWave, through ActiveX technology, supports signal based test programming in virtually all of the existing testing environments".
The standard was approved by the IEEE Standards Association of which Racal Instruments is a member through participation of IEEE SCC20 committee, on 23rd September 2004 at Autotestcon 2004 held in San Antonio, Texas.
