White LED driver IC lights up cellphones
Rohm has launched a device that will simplify the design of mobile phones requiring full colour backlights by delivering the increased voltages and driving functionality demanded by white LEDs.
The respective output voltages of 3.3/2.5V and 3.3/1.8V are precisely controlled to within +/-2%.
Ideal for a wide variety of space-limited applications, the new low-dropout-voltage regulators integrate a PNP power transistor with built-in over output current protection circuitry that prevents the IC being damaged in the case of a short circuit.
An onboard thermal shut down circuit provides protection against thermal breakdown.
The BA33C25FP and BA33C18FP are supplied in compact TO252-5 packaging with dimensions of just 6.50 x 5.50 x 2.30mm.
Rated operating temperature is between -40 and +85C, while power dissipation for both devices is 1000mW at 25C.
