Recom now offers a series of switching regulators for low power applications as a supplement to the Innoline range of nonisolated point-of-load convertors The new devices feature a compact design with measurements similar to a TO220 and have a pinout identical to industry-standard 78xx series linear regulators, making them a real alternative to the analogue standard solution

Efficiencies are as high as 97% - removing the need for forced cooling - and other specifications correspond to those of the linear regulators, crating a finished part that allows the system designer to forget about thermal problems due to miniaturisation.

This switch-mode convertor is as simple to use as the widespread analogue 78xx linear regulator, requires no external components and avoids the problem of heat generation, as the internal losses are so low that they are not significant - unlike with the linear solution.

All the usual output voltages are available as standard, but nonstandard voltages and customer-specific solutions are also readily available.

Input voltage range is from 1.5 to 34V, and outputs are available of 1.8, 2.5, 3.3 5.0, 6.5, 9 and 12V, with 500mA current (a 1A version is under development).

Devices measure 11.5 x 7.5 x 10.2mm and feature an operating temperature range from -40 to +70C at full load, derating to 80% load at +85C.
