9V battery has double the capacity of alkalines
Saft's new 9V primary (non-rechargeable) lithium batteries have twice the capacity of standard alkaline equivalents, doubling the life between battery changes of equipment.
Saft's new 9V primary (non-rechargeable) lithium batteries have twice the capacity of standard alkaline equivalents, doubling the life between battery changes of equipment using the handy prismatic-format 9V power source (UK PP3 size).
The LS 9V and LS C 9V batteries also provide other benefits of the lithium thionyl chloride electrochemistry - a very wide operating temperature range of -60°C to +75°C, and long storage life.
The new batteries can replace a standard alkaline battery of similar format in most applications, as continuous-current and pulse performance are similar.
The ultra long life is particularly useful in equipment such as smoke detectors, alarms and security systems for situations where it is difficult to change a battery.
Other applications include safety and security systems, professional electronics equipment and measurement devices.
The new Saft 9V batteries will be marketed to electronic product manufacturers direct and through Saft's distribution network worldwide.
There are two versions.
The LS 9V battery is optimized for high pulse performance: it can give 200mA pulses for 1 second per minute, has a nominal capacity of 1.00Ah, and continuous current capability of 40mA.
The LS C 9V battery is optimized for maximum capacity: it provides 1.2Ah nominal capacity, continuous current capability of 12mA and pulse capability of 100mA.
Both batteries weigh 28g.
The 9V batteries are constructed from three Saft LS ˝ AA size primary lithium cells connected in series.
Low self-discharge of less than 1 per cent after one year of storage at 20°C gives a very long storage life.
LS cells have stainless steel containers and are hermetically sealed.
The 9V batteries have a plastic sleeve housing and miniature snap-on connectors, and are non-restricted for transportation.
