Sealevel Systems has released the first four board-level products based on a novel embedded industrial I/O architecture, eI/O Unlike traditional I/O products, eI/O products achieve expansion in groups of eight inputs or eight outputs per module

This modularity allows the user to mix and match modules providing relay, optoisolated I/O, A/D, D/A and other commonly used I/O as appropriate to create a customised embedded I/O subsystem that is optimised for size and cost-effectiveness.

Interface to the eI/O modules is accomplished via an industry-standard 50-pin cable interface (PB24/32) compatible with a number of bus-based controllers including Sealevel's PIO series of boards and USB adapters.

The digital interface connects to the M200 baseboard that allows access to other eI/O modules via rugged 50-pin board to board interconnects.

Field wiring is connected to each module via removable terminal blocks supporting 14-22AWG conductors.

Power for the eI/O stack can be input from the ribbon cable, from an external 5V DC source, or from external 9 to 30V DC using the onboard power regulator.

In addition to the baseboard, three eI/O modules are available now: the M240 optically isolated input module monitors 12-24V DC/AC signals at up to 24V/7mA (sinking); the M260 reed relay module provides eight Form A SPST long-life dry contact switch closures; and the M280 is a quad solid-state relay module compatible with a variety of QSSR input/output devices and rated for up to 4000V RMS isolation.

eI/O modules can be mounted using optional Eurotrays (DIN-rail compatible), or they can be direct mounted.

Prices of eI/O modules start at $79 in small volume quantities.

Delivery is from stock.

Additional eI/O modules under development include Form C relay, prototyping and analogue I/O modules.

For applications requiring a large I/O count of the same type, custom development is available.

An eI/O starter kit is available to speed application development.

The kit includes the M200, M240, M260, and M280 modules plus a PCI interface digital controller (p/n 8010), cabling and Eurotray mounting hardware.

Also included with the starter kit is Sealevel's new digital I/O application guide, "The industrial I/O handbook".
