Matsushita Communication Industrial has joined the list of leading wireless terminal manufacturers selecting Sasken's mobile multimedia codec licenses for use in their wireless devices Over the years, Ericsson Mobile Platforms, Samsung, and Sharp have all been working with Sasken in the area of multimedia solutions

Sasken solutions will help them come up with rich multimedia applications and build robust devices that are compatible with various networks and media types.

"By selecting Sasken as their provider of multimedia codec components and integration support, these companies will speed up time-to-market for their devices with reduced R and D investment.

These partnerships are further demonstration of Sasken's position as a leading supplier of multimedia codec based solutions, applications and protocol stacks to wireless terminal device manufacturers and platform vendors around the world", commented Colin Aitken, Director and General Manager, Sasken Europe.

Sasken offers wireless device developers Kaleidoscope - a range of multimedia applications, multimedia framework and media codec engines.

Multimedia solutions provided by Sasken include the multimedia player with streaming support, 3G 324 M video phone terminal and MMS client.

The latter conforms to 3GPP release 4 and sustains both mandatory and optional media formats.

Sasken provides a wide range of video, audio and speech codecs that are readily available on the OMAP and ARM platforms, and are all eXpress DSP compliant for OMAP.

As a TI certified Independent OMAP Technology centre, Sasken is working on developing and optimising multimedia components on OMAP.

Sasken licences its multimedia codecs to terminal equipment manufacturers around the world and provides integration and customisation to help optimise multimedia solutions including standards-based audio, image and video codes such as MPEG 4.

Sasken is also a Symbian Platinum partner, which enables Sasken to work closely with leading device manufacturers who are Symbian licensees.

Sasken will demonstrate its mobile video solution, MMS client and UMTS protocol stack for next generation wireless terminal devices at UMTS-MI Congress, Paris, on 2nd-4th October 2002.

Colin Aitken, Director and General Manager at Sasken Europe, will make a seminar presentation at the event, in the 3G terminal section on protocol stacks for the next generation wireless terminals.
