More help for handset manufacturers
Sasken is to extend its capability for providing model development services for handset manufacturers.
"Sasken's SMIL 2.0 compatible MMS Client is architected uniquely to enable integration with video capabilities at a later stage.
We believe that handset manufacturers who plan to upgrade their MMS handsets to multimedia devices will find this a great attraction, as none of the existing MMS client solutions seem to have this capability", said Pranabh Mody, Head of Terminal Device Solutions Business Division, Sasken.
"Our solutions are currently going through field trials with carriers, and we aim to provide customers with proven solutions that are ready for deployment", he added.
Sasken joins an ecosystem of reference design companies, application developers and software companies who will work with Intel in helping handset manufacturers come up with next generation wireless handhelds in record time frames and enable them to effectively compete in the global market.
"Intel PCA is an open architecture that allows rapid development of new wireless Internet applications and devices.
The architecture enables end user applications to be written to a general-purpose microprocessor with scalable performance", said CY Yeung, Director for Wireless Market Development, Asia Pacific, Intel.
" We are happy to work with Sasken to develop mobile applications based on Intel PCA.
Innovations by software developers such as Sasken will bring more multimedia and Internet applications to end users".
In addition to optimising applications on Intel PCA, Sasken will provide integration, testing and other development support services to customers enabling them to launch mobile devices in reduced timeframes.
Sasken's solutions for next generation mobile devices include applications, multimedia framework, codecs like MPEG 4 as well as communication engines such as wireless protocol stacks in GSM/GPRS and UMTS.
