Multiple FPGAs get to work on imaging development

The TS-DK-IT01 is an imaging development kit aimed at leveraging FPGA processing capabilities for high-performance imaging applications.

This development kit includes the SBS Tsunami FPGA platform, infrastructure software, development environment and multiple resources for integration of CameraLink and other custom image processing applications.

The SBS Tsunami, an advanced FPGA-based computing platform uses multiple FPGAs as the actual processing engine on a high-performance single board computer (SBC).

The result is a complete computing system capable of supporting algorithm-intensive, high-bandwidth applications with far less real estate, lower power, and less expense than existing multi-CPU or DSP systems.

"FPGA-based processing power comes from ASIC-like efficiency of software re-programmable logic, and the ability to parallel-process multiple streams of data", said Ron Strauss, Vice President and General Manager of SBS Canada.

"If your imaging application requires the resources of multiple CPUs or DSPs to process the required datarate and algorithm complexity, you should instead be considering an FPGA computing solution".

This developers' kit hardware and software package provides the resources to quickly begin leveraging FPGA computing using a Camera Link or LVDS camera.

The following components are provided: Tsunami PCI with Stratix FPGA processor; CameraLink or LVDS mezzanine I/O board; SBS Wave Imaging tool kit and FPGA infrastructure software for rapid system development; Altera Quartus, SOPC Builder and NIOS development kit; SBS support services and engineering resources; and a general purpose I/O mezzanine board with parallel and serial interfaces is also available.

The TS-DK-IT01, which includes the Tsunami platform, is available now.
