Boards host FPGA development in C
Embedded systems programmers can now take full advantage of high-performance FPGA computing in their applications using the familiar C language.
Embedded systems programmers can take full advantage of high-performance FPGA computing in their applications using the familiar C language thanks to the combination of Celoxica's Handel-C development tools with SBS Tsunami FPGA computing platforms Celoxica's DK Design Suite provides a proven C-based programming environment, Handel-C, which now opens up FPGA computing to the broad C programmer community

Previously, FPGA computing was limited to hardware engineers versed in VHDL or Verilog, but now the SBS Tsunami FPGA computing platform lets C developers directly compile their code to a platform-optimised FPGA implementation without requiring specialised expertise or RTL languages.
With this added boost in productivity, developers can easily migrate their DSP-based applications to FPGA-based solutions, bringing the price and performance advantages of FPGA computing over DSP processor-based systems to market faster with lower development costs.
"SBS Technologies successfully supplies a mix of embedded computing hardware for aerospace/defence, medical, commercial and telecommunications applications, markets that can take advantage of rapid implementation of complex algorithms into hardware", said Phil Bishop, Celoxica's CEO.
Bishop continued: "Combining the Celoxica DK Design Suite with SBS Tsunami FPGA computing platforms rapidly provides a high-performance embedded solution that takes advantage of direct implementation of C-based code to FPGA hardware".
The DK Design Suite, coupled with the SBS Wave FPGA software tool kit, supports the Altera Stratix FPGA device used in the Tsunami FPGA computing platform.
To ease programming chores, the suite's Handel-C synthesis tool performs retiming of critical paths, automatic use of FPGA combination multipliers and on-chip resources, and automatic pipelining of synchronous memory blocks.
Joe Hanson, Director of Marketing for System-Level Development Tools at Altera said: "The SBS and Celoxica relationship provides embedded systems developers with a proven, COTS solution to quickly leverage the performance of our Stratix family of FPGAs.
We are very excited to recommend this combination to our customers".
The SBS Tsunami FPGA computing platform is available for most Stratix device sizes, in many form factors including PCI and PC/104, and in various environment temperature ranges.
