SBS Technologies has added a new 3U CompactPCI conduction cooled single board computer to its line of Intel processor-based products.

SBS Technologies has added a new 3U CompactPCI conduction cooled single board computer to its line of Intel processor-based products.

This new SBS single slot CR3 computer is ideal for industrial and military applications, process control and other embedded/OEM systems that operate in harsh environments.

"The CR3 is designed for the demanding environments common in military and industrial applications", said Wayne McGee, General Manager of the SBS Technologies Single Board Computer Design Centre in North Carolina.

"It offers robust extended temperature computing capabilities for critical systems in a cost-effective, small form factor without requiring extensive development time".

"SBS engineers have designed this board to have maximum flexibility and high reliability to meet the challenging requirements of industrial and military life cycles".

The 3U conduction cooled CR3 uses an ultra-low-voltage (ULV) Intel Celeron processor with a core clock speed of 650MHz, meeting performance needs of the CR3 while offering the benefit of low power consumption, using only +1.1V when operating at 650MHz.

Built for harsh and demanding operating locations, the CR3 has extended shock and vibration tolerances and contains an on-board temperature sensor to monitor operation within a wide temperature range of -40 to +85C.

"The rugged SBS CR3 single board computer is an excellent example of the type of application that benefits from the ultra-low-voltage Intel Celeron processor", said Steve Sciarappo, Director of Operations, Embedded Intel Architecture Division, Intel Corp.

"The CR3 single board computer is designed to operate reliably in demanding operating conditions and is currently the only 3U small form factor board using an Intel Celeron processor", added Sciarappo.

The rugged, extended temperature CR3 is equipped with 128Mbyte of SDRAM and 512Kbyte of boot Flash memory and includes two 10/100Base-T Ethernet ports, two RS232 serial ports, two USB 2.0 ports, an IEEE1284 parallel port, and front-panel PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports.

For increased flexibility, an optional dual CompactFlash storage disk mounted on an XB-CR3-CFIDE daughtercard is available for quick erase and replacement of storage memory in the field.

The CR3 offers the versatility of operating as a system controller or peripheral card through the dual-mode functionality of the PCI/PCI bridge and supports Linux, VxWorks, Windows XP and Windows XP Embedded.
