The Telum 1001-O12 AdvancedMC ATM module is a high performance, single wide, full height, PICMG AMC.1 compliant ATM adapter featuring a front I/O full duplex OC-12 interface.

New at SuperComm 2005 from SBS Technologies, the Telum 1001-O12 AdvancedMC ATM module is a high performance, single wide, full height, PICMG AMC.1 compliant ATM adapter featuring a front I/O full duplex OC-12 interface and is intended for high availability telecomms applications "Our Telum 1001-O12 AdvancedMC ATM I/O product supports features that allow the end-customer to maintain continuous communication services despite a port failure or the need to replace a module that has failed or requires service", said Rubin Dhillon, Vice President of SBS Communications products

"This Telum product includes a DDK compatible with the SBS WANic and Maxim 1000 product family as well as support for Carrier Grade Linux".

"Both of these software features will improve time to market for our customers".

The Telum 1001-O12 uses the PCI Express bus to communicate with the host processor on an Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA) system as well as other architectures.

This AdvancedMC module complies with ATM Forum UNI 3.1 and TM 4.0 and is based on an advanced ATM segmentation and reassembly (SAR) controller designed to optimise the PCI Express bus interface.

The Telum 1001-O12 supports one full-duplex OC-12 port for protocol data unit sizes as small as two cells.

An optional automatic protection switching (APS) port is available.

The APS feature supports line failure switch-over.

If the primary optical connection is lost, control circuitry on this module can automatically switch the data path to a secondary physical layer device which is attached to a redundant optical connection.

The switch-over is transparent and the end-customer does not lose communication services.

The Telum 1001-O12 uses an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) subsystem to initialise board level parameters, monitor board voltage and temperature conditions, maintain system status, and manage hot swap operation.

A microcontroller is used as the IPMI intelligence and connects to the AdvancedTCA system management bus and the local PCI Express bridge device.

The Telum 1001-O12 is hot swappable and field-replaceable in accordance with AdvancedMC specification AMC.1.

The Telum 1001-O12 supports Windows 2000/XP, standard Carrier Grade Linux and VxWorks operating systems and ships with compatible drivers.
