Schaffner has addressed the latest trend in automotive electronics systems with the release of a high-current coupler which upgrades its NSG 5000 test system to 42V.

The CDN 5010 is available now, and extends the capabilities of the industry-standard automotive EMC immunity system to the latest generations of 42V automotive electrical supply systems.

Used by automotive manufacturers and subcontractors worldwide, the NSG 5000 has become the de facto standard automotive immunity tester, supplying interference pulses as defined by ISO, DIN and SAE standards, as well as a number of "manufacturer-specific" pulses.

And while 42V falls within the 45V capability of the NSG 5000 mainframe, such tests are only available at a reduced current rating of 10A.

The CDN 5010 increases the capabilities of the system to 48V at 60A, which is isolated from the mainframe by both a switch and a decoupling filter, but still controlled by the system controller.

Pulses are fed to the coupler directly from the generator module and then superimposed on the battery supply of the equipment under test.

The CDN 5010 coupler is available now from Schaffner EMC, housed in a compact 19in benchtop enclosure, just 7.5in high.

It can also be mounted in a standard 19in rack.
