Three-phase plus neutral filters run to
160A

Schaffner has expanded its range of "all-in-one" EMC solutions by extending the current range of its popular FN256 range of three phase and neutral filters.

Schaffner has expanded its range of "all-in-one" EMC solutions by extending the current range of its popular FN256 range of three phase and neutral filters Previously available for applications ranging from 8 to 64A, the range now features devices rated at 80, 120 and 160A, addressing the suppression demands of higher-current applications, particularly those with asymmetric loads

Featuring high-value LCR networks for each of the phases and for the neutral line, FN256 series filters provide high attenuation of both symmetrical and asymmetrical interference.

All devices have a maximum operating voltage of 480V AC, and an operating frequency range of DC to 60Hz.

The filters are all characterised at 50C unlike most competitive units on the market, which need to be derated when used in ambient temperatures above 40C.

The full operating temperature range has also been extended to cover -25 to +100C.

Other major advantages of Schaffner's FN256 filters are that they have a very small footprint and employ a special component potting technique to minimise weight.

The 64A unit, for example, requires a mounting surface of just 153 x 140mm and weighs only 2.2kg which is less than half the weight of competitive filters.

This combination of physical attributes allows FN256 series filters to be easily accommodated on control panels and in crowded equipment cabinets.

Schaffner FN256 series filters are packaged in a lightweight aluminium housing, designed for chassis mounting.

The phase and neutral I/O connections use safety terminal blocks, and the earth connections are M10 screw stud type.

Featuring safety approval to EN133200 and UL1283, the filters meet the IP20 protection standard and can withstand four times their rated current at switch-on, and 1.5 times their rated current for one minute, once per hour.

Leakage current is low, allowing the FN256 series to be used in safety-critical applications and even in medical equipment.

For example, the 80A device has a leakage current of only 3.4mA operating at 480V/50Hz.

The full range of FN256 filters from 8 to 160A is available now from Schaffner EMC. Request a free brochure from Schaffner ...
