Harmonic filters raise power system efficiency
Load-applied passive harmonic filters represent the ideal solution for three-phase power electronics with six-pulse rectifier front ends.
Thermal management complements EMC
Range encompasses single component PCB mounted heatsinks through to high-performance fan-cooled heatsink assemblies and liquid coolers.
Amendment A11 to the EMC product standard EN61800-3 for variable speed electrical power drives introduces a number of changes and more precise definitions compared with the standard published in 1997.
As conformance with EMC legislation is a decisive selection criterion for most users of frequency convertors, drive manufacturers need to suppress interference from their products in accordance with the prescribed limiting values.
To simplify this task, Schaffner offers the optimised FN3270, which, in addition to full compliance with the limit, also provides improved connection technology, simplified handling, reduced space requirements and generally enhanced practical usability.
With a more compact construction than any predecessor, the lightweight FN3270 filters combine the industry's smallest footprint with optimum performance.
Installation and electrical connection is both quick and easy.
All filters from 10 to 100A are equipped with solid safety terminals, providing sufficient clamping range for the large conductor cross-sections common in industrial applications.
For the first time ever, all filters from 150 to 1000A with busbar connectors can be retrofitted with optional protective Plexiglas covers.
Available as accessory items, the nonconductive covers protect installers, fitters and inspectors from accidental contact with life conductors while retaining a view of the connection for inspection at any time.
User-friendly selection and deployment lie at the heart of these innovative components.
To avoid overspecification, the range is broken down into 14 different current types, in convenient increments from 10 to 1000A.
The filters allow a maximum operating voltage of 520V three-phase AC, and can be operated fully loaded in 50C environments.
Comprehensive details of the new filters and how they relate to EN61800-3 are available on request from the company in the form of an in-depth application note entitled "Motor drives - EMC filters in industrial applications" and in the individual product datasheet.
