Michael Lowe started Schaffner in the UK in June 1984 and was told by a major competitor that he would be gone by that Christmas.
20 years later Schaffner has facilities in Wokingham and near Dorking and plays an important part in the GBP 70 million global business of Schaffner AG, the Swiss parent company.
Lowe will be continuing for a time as a Non-Executive Director engaged on special projects before ending his highly successful career.
"I have had a very rewarding time with Schaffner and this is a good opportunity to bring in a new chief executive", comments Lowe.
"The worst of the recession in our industry is now over and we are seeing real growth in demand for our products.
We have found an excellent new man for the job who will have a great chance to build on our successes and exploit the new markets that are emerging for our services".
When Lowe finally completes his service with Schaffner he will indulge his passion for travel.
The new Managing Director, Paul Dixon, comes to Schaffner from IFR where he had a range of roles in Europe and has considerable experience of RF and communications test and measurement equipment.
Dixon observes: "This is an exciting time to join a company positioned to share in the growth of wireless communications in both consumer and industrial markets.
The engineering resources of Schaffner are ideally suited to meet the growing demands of communication and control systems in major emerging markets such as automotive, networking and automated manufacturing".
Dixon's preferred form of relaxation is scuba diving and underwater videography, and he has a special interest in discovering and exploring undiscovered shipwrecks. Request free introductory details about products from Schaffner ...
