The Schaffner WK140 can test up to 384 connection points and detect open and short circuits and miswiring.

In-circuit resistors, capacitors and diodes may also be tested and functional testing of switches carried out.

Test programs may be "learnt" from a known good sample or programmed from a PC, ASCII based test language or CAD test data.

A PC card slot is provided for additional memory to hold test programmes on a PCMCIA card.

Two parallel and three serial interfaces are available for connecting printers, barcode readers etc.

A dedicated interface for remote operation of external devices, such as fixtures and feeders, is a standard feature.

Automated test program generation, extensive statistical functions and a standardised user interface enhance the powerful and reliable measuring electronics, and flexible report and label printing utilities are simple to access.

The switching matrix is composed of test-point cards, each with 128 test points, all test points may have user-defined pin names attached.

Switching matrixes may be replaced by LED driver cards with 128 driver circuits on each in order to activate LEDs on a device under test, simultaneously with the associated test point.

LEDs may also be used during testing as a visual wiring assembly aid or to pinpoint fault location.

The optional Ethernet interface allows local network connection for central test programme management and storage of test results and statistical data such as number and kind of faults, number of tested units and performance of the test facility etc.

The interface allows TCP/IP data transfer with a defined IP address, allowing connection to remote testers via the Internet for data collection, programming and maintenance.

As more OEMs move manufacturing to offshore locations the ability to communicate directly with test equipment becomes very useful, not only in order to update test programs directly but also to gather test results for analysis, check that the equipment is performing to specification and ensure it has not been tampered with.

The WK140 measures 300 x 230 x 120mm and weighs 3kg without test point cards.

Front panel controls are provided for manual test functions, a 2 x 20-character liquid crystal display indicates test status and LED indicators and an audible warning provide local confirmation of test pass or fail.
