Power entry module simplifies PSU design

A Schurter product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Jun 17, 2003

The DC12 power entry module is an IEC/EN60320-1 appliance inlet that incorporates a single- or two-pole line switch and a line filter, and can play a valuable role in power supply design.

Power supply requirements are changing dramatically, forcing designers to use smaller, more efficient solutions.

Special attention has to be paid to a wide range of factors, including power density, power quality, reliability, efficiency, handling, thermal behaviour and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

The new DC12 power entry module from Schurter is an IEC/EN60320-1 appliance inlet that incorporates a single- or two-pole line switch and a line filter, and can play a valuable role in power supply design.

The DC12 is made especially for high inrush currents and is suitable for high transient loads.

EMC line filters are available in the standard rated currents for standard and medical versions and the inlet is a fully self-contained assembly that reduces overall component count.

The inlet has the same dimensions regardless of whether single- or two-pole switching is used, and can be specified for either screw-on or snap-in mounting offering a variety of designs and optimal safety for your application.

The DC12 is approved to 10A, 125/250V AC, 50/60Hz according to ENEC, UL, CSA and is suitable for use in equipment according to IEC/EN60950.

These inlets are ideal for use in sophisticated power supplies, especially in IT, medical and instrumentation as well as in other industrial equipment.
