Amplifiers extend function generator performance

A Spectrum Systementwicklung Microelectronic product story

New amplifier boards enhance the application areas of fast arbitrary waveform generators from Spectrum.

The new MI6xxx-Amp amplifier boards enhance the application areas of the fast arbitrary waveform generators from Spectrum.

As standard, Spectrum's 60xx and 61xx series arbitrary waveform generators generate an output swing of 3V on their four channels.

The new amplifier boards now extend this output range to 10V level.

This amplifier option is available with one, two or four channels, matching the channel numbers of the arbitrary generators.

Thanks to the high bandwidth of 30MHz these amplifiers can be used with all generators ranging from the entrance-level version with 20Msample/s up to the high-end version with 125Msample/s and 25MHz filters.

The amplifiers have an output impedance of 50ohm, resulting in a maximum output level of 5V when used with 50ohm termination.

When using high impedance termination the full output swing of 10V is available.

The amplifier boards are available as PCI, CompactPCI 3U and 6U versions.

The boards do not need active cooling and so only occupy one slot width.

As these amplifiers have a fixed amplification no additional software programming is necessary.

All features of the arbitrary waveform generators like the programmable gain and offset or the filter settings are still available when using the amplifier board.

The 60xx series arbitrary waveform generators consist of eight different versions with 14bit resolution and output rates between 20 and 125Msample/s.

All versions are available for different bus systems like PCI, PXI, CompactPCI 3U and 6U.

The generator boards have up to four synchronous channels and can be combined using an internal synchronisation bus to multiboard and mixed-mode systems.

All cards can be loaded with freely defined waveforms using up to 512Mbyte onboard memory.
