Mobile receiver features in award-winning card
TV/modem card provides end users with on-the-go access to a wide range of high-quality multimedia and data communication applications.
The world's first DVB-H PC product has been named a winner in the International CES Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Awards.
The DT501HS from Onda Communications, which is based on Siano's receiver and antenna chips, has been named an honouree in the computer peripherals category which recognises products designed to connect and extend the functionality of desktop or portable computer systems.
The DT501HS, which was launched last month in Italy, is the world's first commercial DVB-H product for PCs.
This USB card combines DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast for Handhelds) mobile TV technology with HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) 3.5G cellular technology, for the PC and notebook markets.
The TV/modem card provides end users with on-the-go access to a wide range of high-quality multimedia and data communication applications, like movies, music and sports and allows consumers to use their PCs and notebooks as the centre of their multimedia and data communication applications.
Onda Communications codeveloped the pioneering card with Siano Mobile Silicon, and software vendors CyberLink and NagraVision.
The DT501HS is currently marketed by TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile) in Italy, for its DVB-H and data communication networks subscribers.
Unlike other DVB-H products in the market, the slim DT501HS does not have an external antenna that sticks out.
Instead, it uses Siano's CES Innovations 2008 award winning tiny antenna chip, the SMS8021 (codeveloped with Vishay), which is mounted on the internal PCB and exhibits high performance gain over the entire UHF spectrum.
DVB-H reception is done by Siano's single chip receiver, the SMS1010, which allows high speed mobility, smooth handovers, and reception sufficiently sensitive to allow deep indoor usage.
The card is complemented by an attractive, easy-to-use application on the PC side, provided by CyberLink.
In conjunction with the Siano receiver, CyberLink's software supports such advanced features as live picture-in-picture mode and an audiovisual TV programme guide.
"The DT501HS has truly revolutionised the way end users can use their PC's and notebooks for their multimedia and data communications applications, enabling them to enjoy both high quality TV and fast wireless Internet services at the same time, with one device".
"Being the first DVB-H PC product ever, this card gives mobile operators a new dimension for making revenues from DVB-H networks", says Alon Ironi, CEO of SiaNo "We are proud to have two of Siano's products - receiver and antenna chips - powering a product awarded by the Consumer Electronics Association, which sponsors the CES Innovations Awards".
The DT501HS will be on display at the 2008 International CES tradeshow in Las Vegas from 7th to 10th January 2008.
The CES awards were officially announced last week in New York by the Consumer Electronics Association.
Each year the CES Innovations Design and Engineering honours selected new products which exhibit outstanding design and engineering across a broad range of consumer electronics categories.
