New from SDC Systems is a full featured Linux solution for the Motorola i.MX21 ADS board The BSP features the Linux 2.4.20 CELF kernel with support for loadable modules, on-chip serial ports, IrDA, Ethernet, LCD video and many more peripherals

This solution also includes dynamic and static power management and XIP (execute in place).

SDC Systems provides Metrowerks development tools including the Platform Creation Suite, CodeWarrior and code analysis tools for the i.MX platform.

Announced earlier this year, the i.MX21 processor uses the faster ARM926EJS core and is fabricated using 130nm CMOS technology.

This family of processors has been developed to allow manufacturers to develop cost-effective wireless-enabled smart handhelds with a wide range of capabilities such as digital image capture and multimedia entertainment, combined with a small number of components, long battery life and extra performance for additional applications.

The Metrowerks BSP has been developed in close collaboration with Freescale Semiconductor to ensure that users can benefit readily from the advanced features of the silicon.

In addition to the Linux BSP for the i.MX21 ADS, SDC Systems also provides an i.MX Virtual Platform from Virtio Corp, for developers who wish to create a virtual prototype of their product, prior to committing to the final hardware/software solution.

The VPMX Virtual Platform, is a fast, full-function software emulation of the i.MX1/i.MXL application development system which runs cross compiled code directly.

Virtio's VPMX delivers dramatic gains in developer productivity by providing a complete desktop environment for application, middleware, operating system and device driver development.

VPMX supports a variety of operating systems including Symbian OS, Microsoft Windows CE.NET, Linux and Palm OS, as well as leading wireless development tool chains including Metrowerks' CodeWarrior Wireless Studio; Microsoft's Embedded Visual Tools for application development and Platform Builder, Microsoft's integrated development environment (IDE).

"The Virtio virtual platform represents another important product for i.MX developers, as it will certainly help to improve the productivity of the project team through fast run times (20MIPS per 1GHz PC clock speed), short Flash burn times and unparalleled debug visibility during integration".
