Embedded database set for port to Symbian OS
Encirq embedded database technology is now being developed for use with the Symbian mobile phone operating system.
US based Encirq has joined the Symbian Platinum Programme to support the growing market for smartphones based on Symbian OST.
As a Platinum Partner, Encirq is extending its award-winning Data Foundation Framework to the Symbian OS ecosystem.
Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the operating system that powers today's most popular smartphones.
Symbian OS is licensed by the world's leading mobile phone manufacturers and to date, over 47 million phones based on Symbian OS have shipped worldwide.
"This partnership reflects our dedication to the growing mobile market and our commitment to further enhance our mobile strategy", said Mark Vogel, CEO of Encirq.
"By becoming a Symbian Platinum Partner, we can expand the advanced capabilities of our solution and strengthen our relationships with users, application developers, smartphone manufacturers and carriers".
"In today's rapidly growing smartphone market, we have considerable opportunities for Encirq to contribute to the value of current advanced mobile phones and those models still in development".
Symbian OS phones are growing in popularity worldwide.
As of Q3 2005 year-on-year phone shipments grew more than 131% compared with the same quarter last year.
According to technology analyst firm Canalys, overall global shipments of smart phones were up 75% year-on-year in Q3 2005 with Symbian emerging as the market leader.
The Encirq Data Foundation Framework provides development teams with an innovative and more efficient approach to building software for intelligent, data-driven devices.
The Encirq Framework radically simplifies the creation of data management software for mobile applications while enabling new capabilities and services.
By reducing complexity, automating the generation of source code, and providing an ultra-efficient runtime environment, the Encirq Framework helps engineering teams to: reduce development time and costs by up to 80%; optimise mobile phone performance while improving system resource utilisation; improve application quality, flexibility and portability; and Increase engineering capacity for product innovation and differentiation.
"With the rapid growth of the smartphone market, high performance data management has become a fundamental component of today's advanced mobile phones", said Jerry Panagrossi, Vice President, US Operations, North America, Symbian.
"The addition of Encirq to the Symbian Platinum Programme underscores our joint commitment to bring advanced data management capabilities to the ever expanding and increasingly sophisticated Symbian OS ecosystem".
Encirq products are distributed in Europe by SDC Systems.
