Software makes good use of spectrum analysers
Oasis II is a novel software package for spectrum management and spectrum and interference identification using standard spectrum analysers or equivalent RF receivers.
Oasis II is a novel software package for spectrum management and spectrum and interference identification using standard spectrum analysers or equivalent RF receivers.
As a measurement tool, Oasis transforms an ordinary spectrum analyser into a comprehensive spectrum management solution.
As an analysis tool, Oasis can be used to perform IM analysis studies, generate channel occupancy statistics, determine emission mask compliance, and more.
A lack of time and resources makes it difficult for field personnel to efficiently manage their spectrum.
Critical tasks related to collocation compatibility, quality of service and interference resolution require spectrum monitoring tools that either don't exist or whose cost exceeds most budgets.
Consequently, less efficient and effective solutions are used that are often time-consuming and which can also lead to erroneous conclusions.
More, because the events being monitored may be intermittent, an operator must be present to view the event as it occurs, which adds cost and potentially wastes time.
In the case of difficult interference problems, it is not unusual that the solution implemented is selected on the basis of expediency rather than solving the root cause of the problem.
However, most network support and optimisation personnel have ready access to a spectrum analyser or equivalent RF receiver.
What is needed is a means to transform this measurement instrument, which doesn't really analyse anything, into an effective spectrum management tool.
Oasis II is an operator-oriented software package that, in conjunction with a spectrum analyser, performs data collection, processing and presentation, facilitating common spectrum management tasks.
This allows field personnel to focus on the job at hand rather than how to set up the equipment to measure the data of interest, and then interpret sweeps of amplitude vs.
frequency that are momentarily displayed on the screen.
Using advanced measurement techniques Oasis can: record, unattended, spectral data for retrieval and analysis at a later time, and replay to view transient events that may have been missed; perform emission mask compliance, identifying events that violate bandwidth and/or amplitude specifications; make channel occupancy measurements; undertake intermodulation interference analysis, which allows users to determine which transmitters can affect them and to identify source of the interference; compare spectrum usage against the channel plan at each site; and generate reports detailing spectral characteristics based on live or recorded data.
An added feature available in the USA, Oasis II features an integrated FCC database that can identify transmitters, perform site/tower surveys and licence verification.
Comments Rick Hartman, President at Summitek Instruments: "By integrating these capabilities into a software package, Oasis II unleashes the power of the equipment you already own.
Oasis saves time and money while improving the quality of service and network efficiency".
